In a hurry_

My name is Andy Kennedy and I work for AIA, the surety company for which Dorry wrote his bail. In August of 2011 I went to the Norwalk office to conduct an ordinary agency review for AIA. I had met Dorry for the first time in March of 2011 so it was a welcome trip out to visit with him and do the review. The review was standard and we decided to break for lunch. Dorry asked if we wanted Mexican food and said there are great tacos at a local super market down the street. I was there with a coworker named Natasha, so Natasha, Dorry, Angie and myself piled into Dorry’s van to get food. Dorry in his hurry dislodged the ramp into the car and then proceeded to beat the device that locks his chair into place in the van into submission by repeatedly ramming it until his chair locked in. I remember being amazed at the dexterity he had in maneuvering his chair in extremely tight places just by manipulating his facial muscles. Once he was locked in, away we went. Angie was driving and Natasha and I were in the back of the van, although it was maybe a half mile away, Angie taking direction from Dorry drove like a bat out of hell. I asked if this was normal and Angie replied that, “ Dorry likes to drive fast”. Once the van had come to a screeching halt, we proceeded to disembark. Dorry gracefully exists the van and then has Angie adjust his wheel chair. I had no idea of what she was doing but it became very evident as he took off towards the store at a clip that could be compared to a brisk jog. I learned quickly that Dorry wanted to go and go in a hurry, anywhere and everywhere! We ordered our food and took it back to the office to eat. The trip back was in the same racecar fashion as the trip there and I held on hoping for a safe return. Mind you I don’t drive like a grandma but damn, I don’t drive that fast! That part of my visit has stuck with me and I look back at it with a fondness that brings a smile to my face, not just because I survived. I enjoyed my time and phone calls spent with an amazing man. Dorry will be missed by a great many people, none the least of which is me. My life is fuller for having shared a part of it with Dorry.- Andy
